What is ISIP?

The Indigenous Student Internship Program is a unique opportunity designed for First Nations, Inuit, and  Métis students at the University of Saskatchewan to gain valuable work experience while exploring their career paths. Its goal is to support career development by helping students recognize their skills, reflect on their experiences, and grow professionally. Rooted in Indigenous Ways of Knowing, the program approaches Western perspectives and by integrating these perspectives, students are empowered to navigate their careers with confidence and cultural pride.

We are committed to helping you hire Indigenous students in a good way, supporting your efforts to diversify, decolonize, and Indigenize your workspace while advancing TRC Call to Action #92.

Benefits of Participation

  • Interns bring innovation and diverse perspectives to the organization while learning new skills and competencies
  • Interns can apply their educational knowledge to gain professional work experience through meaningful employment opportunities
  • Participate in Cultural and Land Based Learning opportunities with Indigenous Elders and Knowledge Keepers
  • Upon successful completion of internships, employers are eligible for $ 5,000.00 reimbursement

Testimonals

"The impact of the summer student solidified the fact the young Indigenous generation are hard-working, smart people, ready to take on a challenge. "

" Having an ISIP intern allowed us to strengthen our cultural competencies, honor Indigenous knowledge in ways that felt genuine and authentic for the intern to weave into our program development and it allowed for Indigenous perspectives to be connected in meaningful ways to the culturally inclusive science activities we created."

"I feel the ISIP program allows for deeper growth for employers than other internships, because of the PD Days ISIP fosters very healthy and sincere relationships between employers and interns. Having the $5000 reimbursement is also a factor."
